The search for a stuttering cure

At the age of twenty-two my life was starting to look up, I had a new girlfriend, I was progressing well at work despite the fact that I had a stuttering problem, I had a decent group of friends, apart from maybe one or two and for the first time in my life I was extremely happy.

I had also decided to move house to live in Devon, away from my native city of Birmingham. This move was very exciting for me and my overall self-confidence levels were improving by the day.

I felt that it would be a good time to attempt to overcome something that had always been my biggest problem, that of course was my speech impediment.

As I am fairly sure all people who have or who have had a stutter have heard, in the past I had been told that it was not possible to cure a stutter. I just could not understand how this could be true as I was able to talk fluently to myself, I could speak fluently when I was drunk and I could sing without even a hint of a stutter.

What I now needed to do was to work out why I was able to do this and to hopefully use the answer to enable me to speak free from stuttering at all times.

This of course would not be easy to do but I had full support from my family, friends and my girlfriend. They vowed to help me in any way that they could.

It took me nearly a year to find the solution, a year of working extremely hard. Overcoming the stutter has totally changed my life, people who are fluent really do not know how lucky they are.

As a career I now help other people to achieve fluency. I have a couple of websites with further information:

Steve has produced a 70 minute DVD on which he describes the techniques and approaches taught on his popular 1 to 1 Speech Courses

He explains in great detail how to implement them and make them a natural part of that person’s speech.
