Stammering and religion

My name is Stephen Hill, I am somebody who had the speech impediment known as either a stammer or stutter, for the purposes of this article I will call it a stammer.

 

Despite reading and being told on numerous occasions that there is no known cure for stammering, I managed to stop stammering when I was aged twenty-two.

 

I have a website at http://www.stammering-stuttering.co.uk which has information about how I managed to do this and the site also includes further information about the types of stammering therapy that I now offer.

 

For the last ten years I have been running one-to-one speech courses over either a three or five-day period to help other people who stammer to achieve fluency.

 

These people take home from the course a seventy minute dvd and a written booklet which I call the stammering course notes, these ensure that they can not forget the techniques and is just an added form of back up. 

 

I have really enjoyed running these courses and have met a lot of very interesting people. Something that I have noticed is that a large percentage of these people have some kind of belief in God. I must say that I also believe and can remember often asking for this form of higher help:

 

Please God help me to speak fluently at school today.

Please God help me not to stammer during this phone call.

Please God help me to speak fluently at work today.

Please God help me to speak fluently during this job interview.

Please God help me to cure this horrible stammer.

 

I think you may have the message by now. I have now, with God's help no doubt overcome my own stammer and am now attempting to help other people to do the same.
