An idiots reaction to my suttering impediment

I was extremely surprised and in fact quite angered by a so called friends response to the fact that I had had a stuttering problem. I had suffered with a stuttering speech impediment for eighteen years before finally managing to work out a cure for the problem at the age of twenty-two.

Around two years later I found myself discussing the subject of stuttering on a night out with some friends, one of whom was to shock me with his opinions.

After I had learned how to stop stuttering and managing to successfully overcome my own stutter, I embarked on a career of helping other people to achieve fluency.

I was interested in finding out how a small sample of fluent people saw the problem of stuttering. This sample would be my own friends during this social evening in a local bar.

I asked this group of people what they had thought of me and the stutter during the time when I had had this affliction. The majority of the responses were basically quite tame which saw most of my friends in a way sitting on the fence with their judgements, not wanting perhaps to offend me, or maybe they were not exactly sure what to say.

Then one of my friends, who is called Peter, made some comments which as I have previously mentioned were to shock me. He stated that in his opinion I had been a wimp during the period that I had the speech impediment.

You used to ask certain people to order your drinks, make phone calls for you and at times you were too afraid to speak at all. So yes you had a stutter but so what, it is not like you were unable to talk at all, he continued. WHAT!

Now everybody is entitled to their opinion but this was just far to over the top. I could not understand his points of view and just hope that other people did not think the same.

Steve has produced a 70 minute DVD on which he describes the techniques and approaches taught on his popular 1 to 1 Speech Courses

He explains in great detail how to implement them and make them a natural part of that person’s speech.
