Hi all, im mesandy, and new to the forum. Just starting a thread to see if I can get some help.

My main problem is anxiety, the feeling that a lot of you get about every day being your last. You see my dad had heart disease at an early age (about 45) and at 60 he has had 2 heart bypasses and stents so I guess I feel Im going down the same path. Ive been like this since I was about 20 Id say. Its a constant tension and holding your breath and feeling on edge that I have to force myself to stop.

Ive had missing heart beats probably 5-10 a day since as long as I can remember and these compound the anxiety.

One thing I would say to anyone is that exercise definitely makes you feel healthier and reduces the anxiety a bit. I go the gym twice a week, play football once a week and swim once a week and I feel a lot better than when I did nothing.

Still though the anxiety is there and I thought as I got older it would pass but it hasnt so far and I have to stop myself from tensing up at least 50 or more times a day. The phsychologist in me thinks it started when my son was born and i bought a house within a few months which was quite stressful but im not sure.

I guess what I am asking is does anyone have any tips for anxiety and how to control it better so I feel more relaxed? anyone know more on vitamin supplements and if they may help?

thanks
mesandy :)

Hi

I have read quite a lot about vitamin B and its role in the production of neurotransmitters, which are the key chemicals in the biochemical theories behind anxiety.

The thing is, unless you have a very poor diet or a sustained alcohol habit (like myself), you shouldn't really have a vitamin B deficiency.

Humans, primates and guinea pigs (don't ask why) don't have the ability to create their own B vitamins so they rely on their diet for them. They are stored in the liver and anything that damages the liver can affect your vitamin B levels. The bad news is that it can take months to restore normal levels.

It is important to eat as much "real food" as you can to maintain these levels. I also take vitamin B supplements but I can't be sure whether they have made any difference to my anxiety.

Hope this helps

thanks for that, appreciate the reply.

Looking a bit at the B vitamins Id say I must be ok. Top foods for this are bananas (i eat 2 a day), potatoes (everyone loves potatoes!) and Tuna (at least twice a week). I like the odd beer and must admit i feel more stressed with a hangover but hey who doesn't..... Strange thing is even Beer is supposed to be rich in B vitamins!

Another one for you hypochondriacs out there (not sure if i spelled that right) any of you guys feel like the arteries in your neck are gonna blow?
It scares me to death and I think is one of the sources of my anxiety as my grandfather died at a young age of a cerebral hemorrhage

have a good one

I think it would also be better to seek some professional help.

I think David07 is right here. Mere diet prescriptions or exercise won't be a perfect solution. A professional help would be highly recommended.
