Do not take my word - Try it!
Anxiety is a wonderful thing. No really. It teaches one about how false and irrational the mind is. It also teaches one that, regardless of how much panic you expierience or how anxious you feel, it can't hurt you! I love that little fact.
When I get into a panic or extreme anxiety, I do one thing, and it works every time. Instead of fleeing from the situation, instead of visualizing another reality, I accept what is. Feel the panic in its fullness. Feel the anxiety. Dive right in. Enjoy yourself.
When you become panicky and anxious, you have two choices. One is run away, avoid the situation, avoid the horrid feelings, let the mind win. By doing this, you are helping no one. You will only get worse. By doing this, curing yourself is impossible.
Or, you can go right into the feelings. Feel them fully. Know that no matter how bad they are, they are an ILLUSION. They can't hurt you. Feel it fully; feel the anxiety. It can't hurt you, so you may as well dive right in. Look forward to those anxious moments.
Every time you are anxious, you have the opportunity to come face-to-face with the illusion itself. It is analogous to a ghost. It may scare you, but it can't hurt you. It can't stay forever, either. It's short lasting and may be interesting to observe. If you learn to accept the anxiety, if you let it come whenever it wants, it will disappear. Do not let it control your life.
If you are planning to go to a restaurant, for example, the normal anxious individual will always think about becoming anxious or having a panic attack. So what if you do? Can anyone else see it? No, they can't. Only you can feel it. So feel it, feel the panic, and realize that ultimately, it is just your mind resisting the situation you're in. Realize that it cannot kill you or hurt you.
Don't get me wrong: feeling the panic can be a frightening experience. It is very frightening. But if you feel it and stay positive, you will defeat it. Keep saying to yourself that it cannot hurt you, that it will disappear soon, and that ultimately, it is just your mind resisting the situation you're in.
Stop dreading anxiety, and start looking forward to it. Ironically, the only way to defeat anxiety is to accept it is there, and dive right in. Let it do its thing. Look forward to those anxious moments because every moment you are anxious is a step towards recovery -- if you treat the moment correctly, that is.
If you have any questions, comments, or if this somehow does not work, do not hesitate to ask. I find it very helpful, just surrendering to the anxiety. Thank you; please try this out.
thanks,
