Relax -- What's That?
Before I go any further I must explain the irony of my choice of subjects. As I sit here writing this article on my laptap I'm on "vacation" in South Florida. My niece is out at the pool with my parents, with whom i stay. My sister is out for an afternoon run. So when I ask you if you know how to relax, I must first answer that question myself. No. But, I'm willing to learn.
I tried to relax yesterday. I didn't go near my computer all day, not even to check email. I paid the price. Today I woke up with a splitting headache. The cause of it? I suspect too much relaxation.

All joking aside, relaxation is important. An article from the Counseling Center of Sam Houston State University states that "tension is incompatible with relaxation" and that we can only do one or the other.

"When we relax our body and our mind, we automatically exclude the tension that tightens our muscles" (Relaxation Techniques, Sam Houston State University).
Relaxation Techniques
According to an article on Futurehealth.org "relaxation training helps you to learn to keep your mind and body quiet ... or energized, but with maximal efficiency[,] to maximize your energy resources, [and] manage how you use energy" (Tips and FAQs on Stress Management and Relaxation. Futurehealth.org). Through various relaxation techniques, people can learn how to bring their bodies into a relaxed state.
There are a variety of relaxation techniques. Some people choose meditation, while others choose physical exercise. There are breathing exercises and muscle relaxation techniques as well.
