I read a nice trick in You can Win book to tackle fear.
It says, Whenever you feel fearful, just think of fear as
F : False
E : Evidence
A : Appearing
R : Real
Whenever you feel fearful, just tell yourself something positive at that very instant, tell yourself that it is just your false perception,,,,,, and your fear will start fading away.......
MY EXPERIENCE :
I remember, there was a time when I used to fear going in the dark. I used to fear that there would be some ghost in the dark, and it will catch hold of me.
But then, I started telling myself it is just a false perception of mine.
And I took the worst case scenario, "okay - even if a ghost comes, what will it do?"
"I will try fighting with it, even If I couldnt fight with him, I will have a unique experience to tell everybody if I escape from his hands ;) "
"Even If I dont escape from his hands, he would try to kill me. Just when he would be about to do that - I'll take name of God, and every1 knows Ghosts are scared of God".....lol
Gradually, I started going in dark telling myself that my fears were just a false perception of mine and voila, now I can easily go in dark,,,,,, but yaeh, it took some time, it actually took me some years !!!
I would say - I tackled this fear alone, that is why it took so much time.....
I would suggest every1 if they could discuss their fears with some close friend, your friend can help you and guide you on how you can overcome it, it would be much easier to tackle those fears with some support from your loved ones.
