The Binge Eating Disorder
Binge eating is more than simply overeating. Everyone will
occasionally over eat, however, those who are binge eaters suffer
from a real eating disorder that can overtake their lives as they
solely begin to focus on food.
For those who are true binge eaters, they may eat for hours when
they are not even feeling the need for food. However, if people are
educated about what this disorder really is and how one can avoid
it, then perhaps those who binge can realize what they are doing
and learn to recover.
What is binge eating? Binging is when people eat excessive
amounts of food. These binges are typically more than what most
people would consider regular amounts of food in one sitting.
Usually, an episode can last for up to two hours.
But, this is a fairly new eating disorder to be diagnosed and,
as yet, not all is known about this sickness. Experts want to
categorize this under bulimia, but the difference is that those who
binge, do not try to get rid of the excess calories by inducing
vomiting.
Since the binge eating disorder is relatively new to the eating
disorder world, one is hard pressed in finding very much relevant
information. However, certain qualities have been found that many
who binge eat exhibit on a regular basis.
People may diet consistently but never lose any weight. They may
even gain weight while on a diet. A binge eater may also hoard food
and then hide the empty food containers because they are disgusted
with their actions. In order to know all the symptoms and signs of
a binge eater, a person should try visiting the Mayo Clinic's
website and search for binge eating.
Binge eating is an official eating disorder that affects
millions of individuals. With more and more research being
conducted, the findings are very staggering. Binging is quickly
becoming the most popular type of eating disorder that a person can
develop.
However, with the support and help of an eating disorder
program, one can overcome their food addiction and go on to lead a
very normal and healthy life.
