Puraepa: An Introduction
There are two major types of depression – bipolar disorder and unipolar
depression. Bipolar
depression is commonly known as manic depression and its symptoms are extreme alternating feelings of elation and
depression.
When unchecked, bipolar depression may lead to hallucinations and delusions. Unipolar depression however is a
bit dangerous in terms of self-infliction. It is generally referred to referred as clinical depression or major
depression.
Different from bipolar, this type of depression dwells on the low moments of one’s life and stays there –
low self-esteem, sad low mood, even in happy moments. This is considered dangerous
because a good percentage of people who have unipolar depression commit suicide.
Most clinical experiments prove that these two types of depression are highly dependent on
the type of food we take. And that type of food specifically refers to food that contains omega-3 fatty acids which
in turn contains EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid chain.
Two particular oral items that contains huge amounts of omega-3 fatty acids which in turn has puraEPA are fish
and fish oil. Lately, Americans consume less and less amounts of food rich in puraEPA acid chains. The ratio of
omega-6 to omega-3 should be ideally pegged at 4:1 and the current American now has 20:1, which is very poor
dieting.
Food that is rich in EPA are cod, cod liver oil, sardines, mackerel, herring, and menhaden. Normally, the human
body converts alpha-linoleic acid or otherwise known as ALA into EPA, but there should also a required amount of
ALA to be left in the body since ALA is also a vital fatty acid for the body.
Studies have proven that EPA is very efficient in the control of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. And it
has a soothing and relieving effect on people suffering from all types of depression, most essentially on suicidal
tendencies. Experts, through studies and extensive experimentations have discovered that a certain specific enzyme
present on all suicidal patients greatly decrease when administered with food that contains EPA and omega-3 fatty
acids.
And to top this, there are breakthroughs in tests that may prove that EPA is effective against certain types of
cancer. Some of the many disorders that EPA help control are:
• ADHD
• Lack of concentration
• Huntington’s disease
• Mood shifts
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder
• Schizophrenia
• Bipolar depression
• Common depression
• And it has been proven to greatly lower the body’s cholesterol level
Stunted growth and slow comprehension may be attributed to low levels of EPA in the body. Children nowadays
thrive on food that scarcely containing omega-3 fatty acids and EPA which may result in academically-weak
brains.
