Funny Phobias

commitment phobia picMillions of Americans are fearful of something or another, some people moreso tan others.  Extreme cases of a phobia can result in escalated anxiety and full-fledged panic attacks.

If people do no overcome their phobias and reactions to the source easily, this can quickly begin interfering with their everyday lives.  Most people have a handful of specific phobias that make them uncomfortable.

These can range from animals such as snakes and spiders; the natural environment, such as storms or lightning; and social situations, such as particular parties or locations.

beat commitment phobia guide Even though these different phobias can be a result of different experiences, there are some common funny phobias that demonstrate how widespread the prevalence of phobias really is.  Some funny phobias include the fear of swallowing air (Aerophobia), fear of books Bibliophobia), and the fear of sitting down (Kathisophobia).

When someone has a fear of food, they have Sitophobia.  This can lead to problems in day to day functioning if they are not eating optimally, and may need to balance out their diet over time so that they are eating things they truly enjoy and are nourishing to their health.

The fear of long words (Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia) would be difficult to overcome for people who enjoy writing, reading, and learning.

People with this phobia would have a difficult time learning new words and looking them up for reference; they may avoid reading in general, which can cause learning difficulties and challenges.

The fear of laughter is defined as Geliphobia.  This makes the person very uneasy and uncomfortable in social settings, and they may even avoid the settings completely as a result.  TI can be an underlying cause of social anxiety disorder or a basic social phobia.

Nomatophoba is the fear of names.  This can make it challenging for the person to learn and interact with other people, and they will also experience learning difficulties with comprehension and memorization.  The person will naturally avoid learning and memorizing names, and may overlook them on a regular basis.

Xanthophobia is the fear of the color yellow.  These people will naturally avoid anything that is yellow or has accents of the color.  They will avoid it in clothes, anything they purchase, and even overlook when they can.

Catoptrophobia is the fear of mirrors, and can result in poor grooming and the inability to function in new settings (e.g. hotels, stores, even large windows) where a reflection might be captured.  These people are anxious about their appearance and reflection, and will avoid reflective surfaces as much as possible.

Fear of walking is known as Basophobia. This makes it very difficult for the individual to get around, and my also be a symptom of a hypochondriac.  The person will limit their chances of exploring and functioning normally if they continue to focus on the phobia, and it can be difficult to overcome.

So it is clear that there are some very obscure fears and phobias that people suffer from. These can range from fears of certain colours to the fear of perl necklaces or Perlen.

There are thousands of funny phobias in existence today, and these can range from the trivial to full-fledged phobias that interfere with day to day living.  A phobia can only develop over time, and doesn’t become serious until the person cannot function at a healthy level.  Sometimes a therapist can help to decondition the person, and make them more comfortable as they challenge their fear.
