Fear of Ants (Myrmecophobia)
The fear of ants or what is scientifically termed as mysmecophobia can really pose a problem if you live in the
tropics or any place
where insects flourish and propagate in great numbers.
And what makes this phobia turn from bad to worse is that if you are in fear of ants, then you would also be in
fear of most insects, especially those that crawl. and this phobia may affect your everyday life especially your
outdoor endeavors.
Going to picnics and parks, and roughing it up in the wilds may not
become very
entertaining to you because of this phobia on ants, and we all know that ants are present almost everywhere most
especially in places where there is an abundance of food.
Now in order to get over this fear and to be able to continue with your everyday life normally, and also to be
able to enjoy activities with your friends and families outside the confines of your home, you have to really get
deep with this fear, study it and learn how to get over it. You would not know how to hurdle this confining phobia
unless you do not study its root.
Getting to know and being able to understand ants better can greatly help you in overcoming your phobia or fear
of them. And facing your fear is actually the best way to overcome it. Unless you try to get to the bottom of the
inner reasons why you have this phobia on ants, you will just continue on fearing them and your issue will not be
resolved in the coming years.
The very first thing that one who has myrmecophobia should do is learn ants’ behavior and why they do the things
they do. Understanding their demeanors and their conduct can give you a better understanding of how they react to
sudden changes in their surrounding, and it will teach you a lot of things as to how to act when near them. More
than usual, they only bite those who they feel endangering their source of food or their homes.
Usually, the fear of ants is hinged on their bite. Or it might be that you fear their numbers or the fear of
anything crawling on the skin so to eliminate this fear, try to be in contact with them and you will eventually
learn to know that their bite is not really painful at all. More than likely, this fear was instilled in you from
your childhood and it just grew out of proportions as you got older.
So to erase that fear that started out since you were still unaware of what ants really do, education would be
the best tool to combat your phobia. The fear might have grew whenever your parents warn you of going very far and
saying that there are a lot of ants out there and they bite.
