Do you have bug or insect phobia?
Every person has fears. Even the animals have fears. It’s okay to be scared sometimes, but excessive fear must
be dealt with soon before it
gets worse.
What scares most people? The dark, sunlight, water, air, heights, flying, fire, unreasonable professors? Most
online phobia lists and websites say it’s the creepy crawlies.
Wikipedia says: Bug phobia or insect phobia is a common fear of or aversion to insects and similar arthropods,
and even other ‘bugs,’ such as worms.
This condition causes a slight to severe emotional reaction, a form of anxiety or a panic attack. It is a
particular case of specific phobias, all of which have basically the same causes (differing mostly in the source
of
phobia) and similar choices of treatments.
Bug phobia or insect phobia or entomophobia (also known as insectophobia) comes from Greek words ‘entomos’ or
insects, and ‘phobos’ or fear.
The most common insect phobias include the ‘fear of bees (or apiphobia) and the fear of spiders and scorpions
(arachnophobia).
What causes entomophobia?
Unpleasant or traumatic experiences with bugs during childhood are usually one of the reasons why insect phobia
exists.
Maybe it was about being stung by a wasp or a bee, which is quite painful it often causes high fever. This is
indeed a reason why we have to stay away from these insects. Some people are also allergic to insects.
Some people acquire their insect phobias from their mothers who would scream every time they see a cockroach or
a spider hanging from the ceiling. This experience might eventually evolve into a psychological disorder.
Whatever its causes, bug phobia is not really a serious problem. Insect phobia can be overcome.
It is in fact a conditioned phobia. So if you opt to believe that you are unafraid of the insects, then you
won’t be! If you find it difficult to do so, consulting a psychotherapist is necessary.
Anyway, insect phobia poses no actual danger, if you just leave that beehive in your backyard alone.
